Castle in Flixecourt

Rue Pierre Legrand, Flixecourt

The city of Amiens developed into an important center of textile production from the 17th century onwards. A success story that lasted well into the 20th century. Among the notable and successful manufacturing families was the Saint family from Beauval. In 1810, three Saint brothers founded the Saint Frères company, which remained the leading company in linen production until the end of the 1960s.

As a result of his business success, Jean-Baptiste Saint planned the construction of a prestigious palace on a large plot of land in the commune of Flixecourt, a few kilometers northeast of Amiens. However, he did not live to see the construction phase; he died unexpectedly in 1880, but his widow finally commissioned the French architect Paul Delefortrie with the construction work in 1882. Completed in four years, the building is a two-story structure with an eclectic facade and a rich interior that has been completely preserved to this day.

The park is partially enclosed by a wall with a finishing balustrade and is entered through an ornate wrought-iron gate. The entire property with its park of almost 2 hectares is designated as a French cultural monument ("monument historique"). The private property is usually not open to the public, but in the recent past the château has occasionally served as a location for events.
