Ponary Palace: Stairs
Pałac w Ponarach, Ponary
Ponary is located in the western Masuria of the Polish Woidwodz Ermland-Masuria. The small village is located north of the Narie Lake (Jezioro Narie), which belongs to the Allenstein Lake District.
In the village there is a manor house of the von der Groeben family. which got the present classicist baroque appearance through various reconstructions. Around 1860, Ponarien Castle (today: Pałac w Ponarach) was generously expanded and received a four-winged annex with a small courtyard on the northwest side. On the northeast facade of the castle, the family's coats of arms can still be seen today.
After 1945, it served as a recreation home for decades and was rebuilt and simplified several times during this period. Today, the rooms are mostly empty, and only scattered remnants of the former interior architecture remain, in addition to the carved wooden staircase. Even if today Ponarien Castle requires high investments - due to the castle park extending to the lake, potential for a tourist gem is definitely given.

Who is the owner of the palace in Ponary?
Currently, the property belongs to an owners' association, which has not yet made public any final plans for the further future of the unused castle (2020). To safeguard the building fabric, it is temporarily occupied by a caretaker.
