In the heart of Salento in Puglia lies an imposing castle, only about 30 minutes drive from Lecce. The castle was built in the 14th century and developed into a Renaissance chateau during the Angevin reign. Although the castle has now been empty without use for almost 50 years, it is remarkably well preserved and just waiting to be brought back to life. Of course, this will require extensive investment to restore this important monument to its full glory.

To get to the castle, a driveway leads from the center of the village across the former moat (now a garden) directly to the main gate of the castle. Part of the driveway is part of the property. As soon as you step through the gate, you feel transported back in time. From the large courtyard one reaches the stables, storerooms and the living area for the servants.

Through the prestigious portal one enters the main area, the residence of the landlords with a total of 51 rooms of various sizes. Many rooms have remarkable ceilings and decorations, created around 1900, when the family lived in the castle. On the second floor there is a very large terrace from which you can overlook the main square of the village with its cafes, restaurants and the church and feel like the "king of the city".

The castle also includes a private chapel dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi. The garden surrounds the former moat and covers an area of about 4,500 square meters. Numerous native plant species give it a special charm and make the stay very pleasant, especially on hot summer days.

With Castello Angioino you have the rare opportunity to acquire a real piece of Italian history. The village of Parabita, although not overrun with tourists, is all the more charming with its outgoing and hospitable locals.
