Golm is located on the road between Woldeck and Friedland, approximately halfway between these places. The village of Golm was first mentioned in a document in 1308. In the 14th and 15th centuries, it was owned by the knightly families of v. Manteuffel, v. Raven, and v. Dewitz. In the 17th century, the Duke of Mecklenburg gradually acquired more shares until Golm was finally granted as a ducal domain with approximately 780 hectares to a tenant in 1668. As early as 1611, there was mention of a residential courtyard in Golm when Albrecht v. Dewitz sold his shares in the village. The 1683 inventory notes a large building with 20 bindings.

In 1847, the Strelitz court architect Friedrich Wilhelm Buttel inspected the estate’s buildings on behalf of the Grand Ducal Office and recommended a complete renovation of the tenant’s residence. Instead, it was decided to build a new tenant's residence, which was completed in 1855 by the then-ducal tenant Gustav Schlee.

The building is a single-story, 11-axial plastered structure built over a high fieldstone cellar. It is capped by a prominent hipped roof. The central part of the house features a wooden, glazed entrance porch, accessible via a curved staircase.

Between 2005 and 2007, the historic floor plans and room layouts were restored. The oak plank flooring, doors, and stucco were preserved, restored, or partially supplemented. The attic was expanded between 2009 and 2010.

The house is partially basement. The basement houses the liquid gas heating system and the wood gasifier with a 6,000-liter buffer tank. Due to groundwater, the basement is monitored with a sump pump. The timber-framed barn was built in 2008, and the carriage house in 2012.

The estate is protected by a beautiful, park-like old tree stand at the street front. In the rear area, numerous deciduous trees were newly planted alongside the old fruit trees. There is a silted pond next to the southwest gable. Central water supply and a biological wastewater treatment plant are available.
