Old Manor for renovation on Rügen Island

Zürkwitz, now a district of Wiek, is located directly on the Wieker Bodden in the northern part of the island of Rügen. The first mention of Zürkwitz dates back to 1341. Two hundred years later, the Pomeranian Duke Bogislaw X sold a portion of the village to Vicke van der Lancken. The von der Lancken family remained the owners of the estate by the Wieker Bodden with few interruptions until the 20th century. The last owners of the relatively small estate, measuring 341 hectares, were the Freiherren von Bothmer, who were expropriated in 1945.
 

The current manor house was built after 1820 to replace a presumably larger, more substantial mansion. The relatively small, single-story building features 11 axes and rests on a fieldstone base. A small, three-step staircase leads to the historical front door. On the west side, there is a small single-story extension. A slightly projected, two-story central risalit divides the plastered facade. The plaster detailing with windows framed by pilasters and the front door are likely from the original construction period. A hipped roof completes the building at the top. On the garden side, there is a sadly dilapidated winter garden.
 

Remnants of the former park, including some very beautiful old specimen trees, are located directly opposite the courtyard side. Additional remnants of the park are situated opposite the east side of the house. The majority of the remaining property consists of forest and agricultural land. The house is unrestored and shows some moisture damage. Otherwise, the fundamental structure is still relatively intact.
