Grants for the Restoration of Cultural Monuments
The Czech Ministry of Culture can provide subsidies for urgent repairs to historic monuments such as castles and chateaux. For example, up to 80% of the costs for securing a roof can be covered. For other repairs, funding of up to 60% of the total costs is possible. The maximum grant amount is 2 million Czech crowns (~79,000 EUR).
Additional funding may be available through special programs. In 2020, approximately 120 million CZK was allocated for the "Renewal of Cultural Monuments" program.
The European Union has also provided funds for the restoration of historic monuments in the Czech Republic as part of its previous cultural funding programs. Successful applicants received several tens of millions of CZK per project. Currently, EU assistance is only available for the restoration of "UNESCO World Heritage Monuments" or "monuments of national significance."
EEA and Norway Grants
Renovations of chateaux can theoretically also be supported through the "EEA and Norway Grants" fund. In 2020, 482 million CZK was available to applicants in the Czech Republic. The maximum grant per applicant is 38 million CZK. However, only about one in ten applicants is successful.
Priority is given to applicants who are connected to the donor countries in some way. Individuals from these countries can apply, while in the Czech Republic only organizations are eligible for funding. Applicants engaged in non-profit activities and supporting minorities have the best chances of receiving funding.
