Vignone is a mountain village with approximately 1,200 inhabitants in the hills of Monte Cimolo, about 5 km above Verbania Intra.
The village is known for its high-altitude panorama and its numerous hiking and mountain biking trails that stretch along the mountains.
Its derives from the former extensive vineyards that once existed here in the past.
A curious monument is the Architrave con incisioni di Vignone, a lintel with three engraved symbols that is located on a residential building on Via R. Francioli and is believed to indicate the existence of an ancient settlement.
What's going on in Vignone?
In the village, you can find general public facilities such as the town hall and post office, as well as an elementary school,
a public swimming pool, soccer fields, and small traditional grocery stores that still provide personal and nostalgic shopping experiences,
away from Aldi, Lidl, and the like.
In recent years, there has also been an increase in holiday apartments and smaller, family-run hotels.
Worth mentioning are the so-called Hosterias, which are often family-run restaurants with traditional Piedmontese cuisine.
These are frequented and appreciated by locals and have also become secret gems among many guests. However, English is not always spoken here.
Villas in Vignone
Not only in dominant lakeside locations but also in the mountain villages, representative residences were built.
Most of them were built around the turn of the century by wealthy families from Milan and are now privately owned.
In Vignone, you can find such villas, especially along Via R. Francioli and Via Alberti.
Buying real estate in Vignone: What you should know
As is typical in alpine regions, the streets in Vignone are also narrow and steep. Parking spaces are generally scarce.
The public and free parking areas are often occupied, so it is advisable to explore in advance where there are parking options in the vicinity.
If needed, potential buyers should check whether a parking space or even a garage is included in the sales offer for a house or apartment.
In recent years, the charming hillside communities around the northern Italian lake have increasingly attracted the interest of emigrants,
as here, compared to direct lakefront properties, a lower price level can be expected without having to
forgo the coveted lake view. Therefore, houses in this area is generally suitable as a second home or for rental purposes.
However, it should be noted that historic villas and houses are typically not wheelchair-accessible.
