Discover castles, palazzos, ancient wineries, manors and country estates in Umbria
Italy's fourth smallest region with its long mountain ranges opens up around the fourth largest lake in Italy, Lake Trasimeno. It is sometimes called the green heart of Italy. Rightly so, because Umbria is primarily known for its high-quality olive oil, but also for its good wines and the diverse agriculture practiced in the valleys, which give the region its special green character.
For foreign real estate buyers, Umbrian properties and land are not (yet) as popular as, say, luxurious estates in Tuscany. Yet there is no shortage of outstanding historic properties in Umbria: Large farmhouses with plenty of space and often also in stately character, as well as old wineries with representative manor houses are the structural witnesses to the distinctive agriculture, which has been successfully practiced for centuries.
Buyers who are in search for particularly exceptional historical objects, will find numerous castles of the Middle Ages, which were built in strategically important locations and which still rise impressively among the rolling hills.
