Classical Mansion in Sobieszyn
Pałac Kickich w Sobieszynie, Sobieszyn
Beautiful Old Houses in Poland: The Kicki Mansion
The Sobieszyn commune is located in the southeast of Poland between Lublin and Warsaw. In the village there was a large estate with a manor house, which was probably built by the famous Polish architect Chrystian Piotr Aigner. Aigner studied architecture in Rome and brought the influences of Italian classicism to Warsaw. The interiors of the Presidential Palace and the Krasiński Palace are among his most famous building projects there. The mansion in Sobieszyn is a brick building plastered for Count Kajetan Kicki with a striking central risalite that illustrates the Italian influence: above the main entrance is an archway with a high porte-fenêtre, as was often seen in classical palaces of the 18th and 19th centuries. The balcony with cast-iron balustrade is flanked by Tuscan columns.
The interior was rebuilt in the post-war period. Today the manor house is unsecured, the rooms are empty and devastated. A real estate auction in 2021 ended without result. For more information on the current status, contact the Fundacja Ochrony Zabytków i Dziedzictwa Kultury, which is working to preserve the monument.
