Former Monastery in Cheb, Karlovy Vary Region
The Monastery of the "Sisters of Mercy in Cheb" was a monastery in Cheb, which was no longer in use after the end of the second world war and got completely abandoned in the early 90ies. In the 2000s the property got into possession of Turkish investors. Plans for a casino and living spaces were not implemented. In the last few years before the demolition, the area has become a total garbage dump. Various rescue measures such as events and exhibitions ended up being too regional and small to finally save the buildings. The entire site was "cleaned up" in April 2016.
The photo was taken at a time when the romanesque monastery church was still worth documenting, at least from an architectural perspective.
Side note: A small six-digit fine was imposed to the owners for failing to meet their liabilities to preserve the monument.
