La Gaeta is certainly one of the most famous Liberty Villas on Lake Como, not only since its appearance in the film Casino Royale. It is believed that the city of Gaeta near Rome, which is also situated on a promontory, served as the inspiration for its name, honoring the unique location and landscape.
In the early 1920s, the architect brothers Gino and Adolfo Coppedè created an eccentric synthesis of arts for the Ambrosoli family, prominent industrialists of the time. The villa blends elements of eclecticism, various neo styles, and Art Nouveau, showcasing the luxury and elegance typical of Lake Como residences from the turn of the century. Its distinctive design served as a model for other villas constructed in the region shortly thereafter, as can be seen in Villa Pessina in Tremezzo.
The villa also features a garden with a private boat landing stage and a bathing beach exclusively reserved for residents. Unfortunately, the property and its outdoor facilities are not accessible to visitors. However, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the villa by driving northwest along the road and taking a short walk along the hillside towards the lake.
