Old Mansion of Alessandro Poss
Via Selasca 28921, Intra
For lovers of old houses and stately villas who have ever driven along the Strada statale 34 del Lago Maggiore in the Italian region of Piedmont, this impressive property near Intra (Verbania) is sure to have caught your eye: Originally built in the 18th century around a former watchtower, the villa reached its heyday through changing owners starting in the late 19th century and was once one of the most beautiful and prominent residences on Lake Maggiore.
Today it is named after the Poss family, an important industrialist family from Milan. The last owner was the cotton manufacturer Alessandro Poss, who had the park, which covers several hectares along the lake, extended like a terrace and equipped with all kinds of exotic plants, which at that time were considered unique on Lake Maggiore. After his death in 1953, the estate was no longer maintained or cared for in any significant way.
Various ideas and utilization concepts of the past years have not been implemented until today. However, the ruinous condition of the villa in the meantime should play only an insignificant role for the value of the property - special plots in the first row with a view of the lake and the Alps are well into the seven-figure range.
