Vacant Castle in Thuringia: Oppurg
Schloßstraße, 07381 Oppurg
Stately baroque castle of the von Einsiedel family from the early 18th century in the Saale-Orla district of Thuringia. Currently (October 2020) property of the State of Thuringia.
The castle was completely renovated in the early 1990s and leased to the Christian Youth Village Association of Germany (CJD) for 66 years.
However, the organisation had to cease operations at the castle in 2017 for economic reasons. A first attempt to terminate the lease prematurely failed. Oppurg Castle is becoming a bone of contention and is currently facing an uncertain future.
It is possible that the castle in Thuringia will soon be offered for sale.
