Palace in Otwock Wielki
Pałac w Otwocku Wielkim, Otwock Wielki
The baroque palace in Otwock Wielki is among better-known sights and outstanding cultural monuments in the Polish voivodeship of Mazovia.
The castle was built in the late 17th century on an artificial island of Lake Rokola as a country residence for chamberlain and bearer of the Junosza coat of arms Kazimierz Ludwik Bieliński. The design is attributed to the architect Tylman van Gameren, who as a court architect was involved in the construction of numerous castles and country estates in the greater Warsaw area.
Characteristic of the symmetrical complex is the dominant central risalit of the park side, as well as the short side wings built towards the end of the 18th century, which are connected to the main building by an arcade. On the courtyard side there are two oval towers, which serve as staircases. The interiors were reconstructed after 1945. Among other things, a Steinway grand piano by Polish composer Ignacy Jan Paderewski can be seen inside. Since 2004 it has been open to visitors as a branch of the National Museum of Warsaw.
