Nestled among the rolling hills of Carballeda de Avia lies a true hidden gem - a 19th-century country house steeped in history and charm. Located in the renowned Ribeiro wine region, this majestic estate blends rustic elegance with noble heritage.
The house retains its original architectural features, including a traditional gallery, intricate woodwork, and even a historic watchtower. Three main entrances lead to the residence and its surrounding vineyards, while the thick stone walls and carefully preserved interiors reflect the rich character of the region.
The Main House
The property has two main entrances on the left side. The first opens to a spacious corridor with exposed stone walls and a cozy fireplace, leading to three large double bedrooms with wooden ceilings and French windows. This area also includes two full bathrooms, a generous dining space, and an interior staircase leading up to the tower, where two additional bedrooms are located.
A separate entrance provides access to the large, fully equipped country kitchen with pantry and breakfast area, which connects to the main corridor. Adjacent to it, a spacious living and dining area offers a warm and inviting atmosphere. The house also includes a laundry room, a natural pool fed by fresh mountain spring water, and an outdoor stone oven/barbecue—ideal for grilling or drying food.
To the right, there is a dedicated recreation and break room for staff. The ground floor houses the historic wine cellar, along with several auxiliary storage rooms.
The Cellar (“Bodega”)
Dating back to the 19th century, the wine cellar is a rare find, designed for fully artisanal wine production without additives. The estate’s unique microclimate, nutrient-rich soil, and a protective wall against frost create ideal conditions for high-quality vines—twice recognized by the Ribeiro Wine Association and the National Wine Association.
Inside, the cellar's traditional earthen walls and wooden ceiling maintain optimal humidity and temperature, ensuring wines can be aged for over a decade. Original ceramic fermentation tanks and well-preserved wooden Carballo barrels are among the few of their kind still in pristine condition. Adding to its historical significance, the cellar houses a fully intact 18th-century wine press.
Outdoor & Garden
A covered terrace outside the main house provides the perfect setting for al fresco dining while enjoying the surrounding landscape. The 3,817 m² estate includes a charming inner courtyard, mature vines, fruit trees, and ample space for a kitchen garden. Additional farmland is also available for purchase.
The Location
Situated in the picturesque village of Carballeda de Avia, the estate is surrounded by breathtaking nature, including the Ridimoas hiking trail, native forests, and a Biosphere Reserve home to diverse flora such as oaks, willows, chestnut trees, and wild orchids. Nearby, the Sierra de Pena Corneira—declared a Natural Monument in 2007—offers stunning protected landscapes.
The village center provides essential services, including a supermarket, health center, and pharmacy.
