Manor in Karczewo
Among the more than 1,500 rural residences in the Wielkopolska Voivodeship, one frequently comes across the name of Roger Sławski. The Poznan architect completed his education in Germany, worked in Berlin for a few years and returned to Poznan in 1905, where he opened his own architectural office. Sławski quickly became a sought-after architect and was subsequently commissioned to rebuild several mansions in what was then the province of Poznan. His works show predominantly historicizing forms of Baroque and Classicism.
Even the classical mansion in Karczewo, built at the beginning of the 19th century, was later given a neo-baroque character by Sławski. The two-story main part with a hipped roof was extended by one-story side wings with mansards. A tower was added to the southwest side. In front of the main entrance there is a porch on cast-iron columns with a glass roof. On the front and park sides there are outdoor seats in the form of a balcony and a terrace with a final balustrade.
The interior is dominated by an open, partially paneled entrance hall with a plain wooden staircase. In addition, historic tiles, wooden beams and doors are preserved. Currently unoccupied, the manor house is in need of renovation but is in acceptable structural condition. The interior work, which was started a few years ago, was not continued.
