Modlin Fortress: Granary Ruin

The impressive granary building of the Fortress Modlin was built in 1844 by the Polish architect Jan Jakub Gay in the style of the Neo-Renaissance and was considered one of the most beautiful buildings in the Kingdom of Poland. It is located directly at the confluence of the Narew and Vistula rivers. In addition to its actual purpose of storing grain, it also had a defensive function and was equipped with embrasures on the second floor.

From 1853 it was used exclusively for storing military equipment. In September 1939, the granary was destroyed by the attacks of the German Wehrmacht and remains ruin to this day. The picturesque setting is a popular photo location and can occasionally be seen in TV productions.
