Hunting lodge/Forest castle in Poland - unique property in Europe

North of the city of Wrocław lies one of Europe's most remarkable residences: Hunting lodge Pałac Moja Wola was constructed between 1854 and 1855 as one of the hunting and summer residences of Duke Wilhelm August Ludwig Maximilian Friedrich of Brunswick (born 1806).

While the architecture of Scottish country houses inspired many noble residences across Europe and America, Moja Wola in the Greater Poland Voivodeship is the only castle in Europe whose facade is clad in oak bark, making it a significant monument in Prussian history.

Today, the dense forest area with numerous ponds is a popular destination for outings and relaxation. The currently non-public "Wooden Castle in the Forest" regularly attracts many visitors and adventurers from Poland and abroad, despite the lack of infrastructure. It is also a favored stop for cyclists and motorcyclists. In the immediate vicinity, numerous other palaces and mansions can be visited, such as Radziwiłł Palace in Antonin (18 km), Maltzan Palace in Milicz (24 km), or Goszcz Palace (12 km). The remaining fragments of the once magnificent Sibyllenort Castle (now named Szczodre), where Wilhelm of Brunswick died in 1884, are located near Wrocław, approximately 60 km south of Moja Wola.

Due to its unique character, historical significance and its special location in a forest and nature reserve, the castle with its large park and a total of 36 rooms could greatly benefit from tourist use. This is especially true given the currently limited accommodation options in the region. Utilization in agriculture and forestry is also conceivable. Skillful revitalization of the park also holds potential for creating a particularly noteworthy arboretum. The tranquil forest setting away from busy roads would certainly be a highlight in any future use concept. Its proximity to Wrocław allows for travel in just over an hour.
